Jasna Veličković - Shadow study #5

Shadow study #5 [2010]

written for MAE ensemble - duration 16'

instrumentation: sol piano/piano, percussion with coils, recorder, clarinet, trombone, violin, double bass
Shadow study #5 is part of my ongoing investigation into playing instruments without touching them. In this work performers use hand-made electronic devices which excite the instruments from afar. Sol Piano is the new instrument build up during this investigation and was shown for the first time at the Dissolve Festival. It clearly supports the concept of Shadow study #5 which is: Music score, as much as it’s fixed by the notation, never sounds the same. Shadow study #5 amplifies this fact.
The building of Sol Piano would not be possible without the technical support from STEIM: Kees van Zelst and Byungjun Kwon.
Commissioned by MAE ensemble with financial support from the Netherlands Fund for the Performing Arts.
premiered: April 13, 2010
Dissolve Festival, Paradiso - Amsterdam
followed performance: April 14, 2010
Spring Festival, Loos studio - Den Haag
